BRIDGEPORT -- Edward J. Schaefer, 87, a retired engineer for Rohr Industries in Riverside, California went to be with our Lord Sunday Oct. 28, 2007 in Decatur.
Graveside service: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson Prairie Cemetery in Bridgeport. Visitation: 6-8 p.m Tuesday at the funeral home. Officiator: Bro. Lee Hamby.
Edward was born January 31, 1920 to Edward Albert and Frances Wichtowski Schaefer in Buffalo, New York. He married Christina Schatz on July 22, 1978 in Upland, California. He served as a Master Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He was also a member of the Wise County Antique Auto Club, the Friendship R.V. Club,the Church of Christ, and the Society of Mechanical Engineers.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Marie Bulmer; his son, Corey Michael Schaefer; daughters, Judith Claire Saul and Carol Sue Thornton; his brother, Julius Tee and his sister, Frances Elizabeth Schaefer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Christina Schaefer of Bridgeport; sons Edward J. Schaefer and wife Chris of Placentia, CA, Thomas Kelly of Bridgeport; daughters, Kathy Lessard and husband Tom of Sebastapol, CA, Peggy Jo Schaefer of Bridgeport; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren.
