Helen Black

Paradise ~ Helen Black, 82, went to be with our Lord, Sunday February 16, 2020 in Bridgeport.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Paradise United Methodist Church in Paradise with burial in Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Rev. Dr, Ed Volfe of McKinney, Rev. David Dunson,  and Claude Span will be officiating. Pallbearers include Scott Black, Steve Manning, Don Murphy, Mark Murphy, Jason Black, and Hudson Black.
Helen was born on March 22, 1937 to Clyde and Lula Mae (Ivy) Murphy in Bryan, Texas. In the spring of 1957, she met her future husband, Mr. Edward L. Black, who was attending Texas A&M College. They were soon united in marriage on January 25, 1958, at the Texas A&M College Church in College Station, Texas.
Helen was a homemaker, farmer, rancher, partner in Lakota Energy, LTD. and a philanthropist. In her earlier years she was busy raising their three sons, farming and ranching in North Texas and Southwestern Oklahoma. At that time, she also worked alongside her husband in the oil and gas exploration and development in North Texas building their business.
In the last several years, Helen worked with several Philanthropic organizations which included, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Cook Children’s Medical Center, St. Jude’s Medical Center, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, Texas A&M Foundation and many other philanthropic endeavors.
Helen was a longtime member of the Paradise United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers, Clyde Murphy, Jr., Norman Murphy, Oscar Murphy, Meredith Murphy, and nephews, Ken Murphy and Ronnie Murphy.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 62 years, Edward L. Black of Paradise; her three sons, Dennis Black and wife Beth of Decatur, Kirt Black and wife Shannon of Decatur, and Karl Black of Runaway Bay; Four Grandchildren, Jason Black, Ashley Culler, Destiny Olivia Black, and Hudson Black; her brother in law, Tom Black of Fort Worth; several nieces and nephews, extended family members and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, if you are so inclined donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Charity of your choice.
