Maria was born on June 7, 1971 to Pedro and Maria (Dominguez) Mendez in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Juan Pedro Mendez

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cynthia Murillo of Denton; her son, Francisco Murillo, Jr. of Denton; 1 granddaughter, Alayhia Siriana Murillo; her parents, Pedro and Maria Mendez of Decatur; 1 sister, Magdalena Mendez–Lira and husband Jesus of Decatur; 3 brothers, Cesar Mendez and wife Anna of Decatur, Pablo Mendez and wife Diana of Fort Worth, and Carlos Mendez and wife Jennifer of Decatur; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
