Alaine Estes Hetherington Oftebro

November 26, 1917 — July 14, 2015

Alaine Estes Hetherington Oftebro arrived in this world on November 26, 1917 and departed on July 14, 2015. Her graveside service will be held Saturday at 2pm July 18, 2015 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Marlin, Tx. She was preceded in death by her parents Elva Hodges Estes and Barney Robert Estes, husband of 42 years, Jimmie Hetherington and husband of 12 years Bill Oftebro, her siblings, Gwen Estes Holiday (Joe) and Burnett Estes (Bettie), 2 nephews and 1 niece. She is survived by her children, Janis Hetherington Bennett (Gene), James M. Hetherington Jr. (Lilli) and Bonnie Hetherington Manley (Aaron deceased), grandchildren, Ligeia, Kirk, Brent, Barry, Aaron and Heather, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 5 nieces and Bill’s children Susan, Julie and Peter. Alaine and Jimmie lived and raised their children in the Reagan/Marlin area. She and Bill, who met on a cruise several years after they had both lost their spouses, lived in Runaway Bay. Alaine lived at The Forum in Dallas for many years. She loved the central dining room concept where she could meet, eat and enjoy visiting with her friends. Her final year was spent at the Villagio in Plano caught in the throes of increasing dementia, but her sweet disposition still showed through.

Alaine was a kind, fun-loving person and a really good listener – a trait that was much appreciated by her rather verbose family. She loved God, her family, babies, a pretty yard and to dance. She even surprised her grandson with her knowledge of the many dance moves showcased on Soul Train. But let’s remember that she married the chairman of the dance committee while they were both still in college. She was involved with her church activities, garden club, room mother’s activities and the Band Parents Club for her 3 children. For many of those years she also worked as a bookkeeper for Lone Star Gas.

Alaine had a full and fulfilling life and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
