Bridgeport - Albert C. "Al" Scott, 79, a retired soil conservationist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture went to be with our Lord Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in Decatur.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport. Burial: East Bridgeport Cemetery.

The Reverend Lucia Kremzar will officiate. Pallbearers: Cal Wood, Steve Howard, Bob Montgomery, Michael Reeves, Stephen Scott Childs, Wayne Harveson, Jeremy Cowlishaw and Gary Bible. Honorary Pallbearers: John Childs, Dean Roberson, Tom Cowlishaw and Billy Easter.

Al was born June 25, 1931, to Dr. Verne and Anna Pearle (Kern) Scott in Stephenville, Texas. He married Barbara Ann Wood on July 3, 1954 in Stephenville. Al graduated Texas A & M in 1954, serving four years in the Corpse of Cadets. Al served as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also served on the Wise County Soil and Conservation Board from 1988 to 2009; the Bridgeport City Council from 1992 to 2010; and Wise Water Board from 2000 to present. Al was named Citizen of the Year in 2005 by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport for 43 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Verne A. Scott, Jr.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Ann Scott of Bridgeport; son, Dr. David Scott and wife Karen of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Becca Scott Kay and husband Brent Kenneth of Princeton; sister-n-law, Eva Jo Scott of Stephenville; nephew, Robert V. Scott of Grand Lake, CO; niece, Susan Reeves of Edmond, OK; other relatives and a host of friends.

I have worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for over 32 year and Al was one of my first acquaintances within Agency. My dad (from Nocona) also worked for the same agency back in the 1960
