North Richland Hills: Alta Lillian Nikirk, 90, a homemaker, originally of Alvord, went to be with our Lord on Friday, December 26, 2008 in North Richland Hills.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Alvord, Texas, with Reverend Kevin James Moore officiating. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery following the service. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Pallbearers are Vernon Hardee, Ray Shipley, Bobby Watts, Roy Peyton, Steve Johnson and Mike Watts.
Alta was born May 25, 1918 in Alvord, Texas to Virgil and Lillian (Hoffman) Claborn. She married John Henry "Dutch" Nikirk, October 2, 1937 in Alvord. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Pat Wallace of North Richland Hills; sons, Pete Nikirk and wife, Mary of Houston, Johnny Nikirk and wife, Sandy of Montgomery, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Leah, Nathan, Barry, John, Joan, Julie, Tina, Tammie, Toni, Christopher, Robin; 23 great grandchildren; 1 brother, V.M. Claborn; 2 sisters, Irene Watts and Naoma Youngblood; numerous nieces, nephews and host of friends.
Alta is preceded in death by her daughter, Carrie Mae Graham; brother, Victor Claborn and sister, Wanda McDonald.
