Alvin was born on May 4, 1936 in Decatur, Texas to Chester L. and Edna Hunley Bassham. He went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family May 28, 2012.
Red grew up in Boyd, played football and graduated from Boyd High School. He went to work for Texas Electric Service Company in 1954 and married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Blythe Bassham on January 1, 1955. They lived in Haltom City, raised their three children, and returned to the Boyd area in 1984. He retired in 1992 after 39 years. He and his wife then became clowns, entertaining children for 15 years, and played Santa and Mrs. Claus for 20 years. They also had a mini-farm with many animals, were every stray found a home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, James Blythe; sister-in-law, Nelda Bassham; and brother-in-law, Jack Martin.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Bassham; his son, Alvin Ray Bassham Jr. and wife Patty; his daughter, Rebecca Bishop and husband Robert; his son, Brian Bassham; his mother-in-law, Margaret Blythe; his grandchildren, Michael Bassham and wife Lenee', Michelle Hughes and husband Johnny, Misty Spring, Cody Webster, Brian James Bassham, Joshua Bassham, Nathan Ritz, Kristy Kelley and husband Patrick, Mark Gober and wife LaVeda, Michael Gober and wife Misty, and Lisa Gober; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald Bassham; his twin sister, Evelyn Martin and friends beyond number.
Because of his great love of children, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alvin "Red" Bassham Memorial Account Benefiting Children with Cancer at the First Financial Bank.
