Auga Lee (Mathis) East

Decatur ~ Auga Lee East, 92, went to be with our Lord Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Sycamore Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Dr. David Lowrie will officiate. Pallbearers will include Andrew East, Michael East, Jesse East, Kenny Boner, Matt Exter, and  G.A. Walker, Jr.

Auga Lee was born March 16, 1929 to Ramon and Maggie Ann (Eason) Mathis in Leo, Texas. She was united in marriage December 29, 1947 to James Borden East in Bloomington, Texas. Auga Lee retired from Wise Electric in 1992 after many years as a billing clerk. She was a member of First Baptist in Decatur since 1960, Auga Lee sang in the choir and taught 3rd-4th grade Sunday School. She was a member of Texas Association of Hospital Auxiliaries and logged 4500 hours of volunteering. Auga Lee was an accomplished seamtress since a young girl and enjoyed making clothes and doing alterations for people. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years, James Borden East; her brother, Jack Forest Mathis; 3 sisters, Ima Wave Belknap, Allie Belle Florida, and Vonceal Wallace.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Rama Lynn Smith of Berryville, Arkansas, Alean East Zufall and husband Robert of Houston; her sons, Charles Steward East and wife Holly of Decatur, and Donald Eugene East and wife Linda of Decatur; her grandchildren, Amy Exter, Natalie Lairamore, Lana Boner, Alexis East, Rachel Ryder, Andrew East, Michael East, Jesse East, and Maggie Zufall; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
