Decatur ~ Aurelio Fernandez, 83, a retired welder from Decatur, Texas went to be with his Lord Thursday, July 27, 2017 at his home in Decatur.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Father Thomas Dsouza will be officiating. Family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur and will have a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Pallbearers include Librado Fernandez, Octavio Fernandez, Gumaro Fernandez, Aurelio Fernandez, Jr., Gumaro Degraf, and Jesse Fernandez.
Aurelio was born July 27, 1934 to Librado and Elvira (Mares) Fernandez in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. He married Juana Chavez on December 10, 1957 in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico. They were married 57 years till her passing in 2015.
Left behind to cherish his memory are 2 daughters, Yolanda Gomez of Saginaw and Imelda Fernandez of Decatur; 6 sons, Librado Fernandez of Decatur, Octavio Fernandez and wife Norma of Fort Worth, Gumaro Fernandez and wife Adriana of Fort Worth, Aurelio Fernandez, Jr. of Decatur, Jose Fernandez of Mexico, and Jesse Fernandez and wife Cindy of Decatur; 26 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Ausensio, Panfilo, and Severo Fernandez; 2 sisters, Ermelinda and Ema Fernandez; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, a sister, and a daughter, Rocio Fernandez.
