Benigno was born on December 15, 1928 in Rio Negro, Columbia, South America to Daniel and Elvia Gelvis Pena. He married Isabel Gutierez on December 28, 1951 in Rio Negro, Columbia. Benigno and Elvia are owners of the Whispering Wheels Skating Rink in Decatur.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Isabel Pena of Decatur; 6 daughters, Gladys Arias of Alexadra, Virginia, Myrian Marti-Munoz and husband, Jose of Dallas, Isabel Martinez and husband, Alberto of Lewisville, Martha Sanders and husband Kim of Dallas, Elvia Gonzales and husband, Richardo of Annandale, Virginia, Darla Portillo and husband, German of Nokesville, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Horacio Pena; sister, Isabel Afanador; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Benigno is preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel and Armando Pena; sister, Beatrice Pena; son, Henry Pena and daughter, Sol Angel Pena.
