BRIDGEPORT -- Bertie Dean Gilliland Murphy, 72, a homemaker, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 in Decatur. Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in Hawkins Funeral Chapel. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials: American Cancer Society. Bertie was born July 5, 1934 in Wise County to the late Paul and Vaudean Thomas Gilliland. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport where she taught Sunday School. Bertie was a talented musician with a beautiful voice who played the piano and was a member of the Denton Community Choir. She loved to paint and write poetry. Several of her poems were published in The World of Poetry. Survivors: Daughters, Kieron Diffenderfer and husband Paul of Bridgeport and Carol Martin and husband Mark of Bridgeport; sons, Ritchard Murphy and wife Tammy of Bridgeport and Paul Murphy and wife Shelly of Arlington; grandchildren, Laura Janese, Shiloh Shannon, Jennifer Dulaney, Stephanie Murphy, Shea, Brie, and Chase Martin, Jory and Reese Murphy; sisters, Paula Thornhill, Sarah Rich and Jerry Foreman; and brothers, Joe and Gaylord Gilliland; father of her children, Ralph Murphy; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
