Betty Evelyn (Elliott) Carlton

Betty Evelyn Elliott Carlton, 82, of Bridgeport went to be with our Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2018.

She passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior at Advanced Rehab and Healthcare in Bowie. Betty was born May 26, 1935 in Bridgeport to Clifford and Bertha Hall Elliott.

She married Tom Carlton in Bridgeport on April 19, 1952. They enjoyed almost 66 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Barbara Ann Stewart; Lynda Ruth Bridwell and husband Doug; and Tommy Curtis Carlton and wife Sharon, all of Bridgeport.

Betty was blessed with five grandchildren: Amanda Gayle Carlton Petty and husband Lance; Adrian Renee’ Carlton Swift and husband Kyle; Morgan Elizabeth Bridwell Cook and husband Austin; Thomas Cody Carlton; and Mason Terrell Bridwell and wife Jaclyn. Her heritage grew to include eight great-grandchildren: Alex Johnson, Brody Johnson, Everett Swift, Kyser Swift, Witten Swift, Carver Swift, Garner Swift and Cameron Bridwell.

Betty was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Bertha Elliott; her brother Johnny Grill; her son Tommy Carlton; and her great-grandson Carver Swift.

She is survived by her husband Tom; daughters Barbara and Lynda; and daughter-in-law Sharon; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. The service was officiated by Dr. David Lowrie.

Pallbearers were Mason Bridwell, Austin Cook, Kyle Swift, Roy Stewart, David Carlton, Terry Carlton, and Cody Carlton.
