Bobbie (Roberts) Ashley

May 26, 1933 — July 24, 2018

Decatur ~ Bobbie Roberts Ashley, 85, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in Decatur.

Graveside service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Rev. Walter Ashley will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Craig Humes, Todd Porter, Brad Porter, and Joshua Humes.

Bobbie was born on May 26, 1933 to Nim Rod and Katie (Evans) Roberts in Decatur, Texas. She was united in marriage to Joe Harold Ashley on August 11, 1956 in Denton. Bobbie was a retired LVN. Bobbie Ashley was an inspiration and blessing to everyone who knew her. Her energy and involvement motivated her family and friends on a daily basis. She shared her joy in life with everyone around her. Her motto was, "smile, make the world wonder what you are up to." she always knew what was happening in the community and was active in making things happen.

Bobbie was active in her Red Hat group, President of the Greenwood EEC multiple times, an avid supporter of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge and walked miles over the years with "Walk Across Texas". Over the years she has researched her family and has notebooks full of family information which led to her becoming interested in the Wise County Historical Society Inc. where she was appointed a member of the Wise County Historical Commission. She was the go to person for the Greenwood/Slidell area and according to Chairman, Kerry Clower, was largely responsible for the landmark designation and the THC marker for the Greenwood Masonic Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Nim Ashley; her grandson, Jeff Porter; and a great grandson.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debi Porter of Decatur, Jo Anne Humes and husband Craig of Hickory Creek; her grandchildren, Todd Porter, Brad Porter, Marla Porter Hill, Joshua Humes, Jonathan Humes, and Caitlyn Ashley; 12 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
