Bobby Jess Askey

Bobby Jess Askey, 90, of Decatur passed from this earth Saturday, October 19th, 2024.

Graveside Service is 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 24th, 2024 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10-11:00 a.m. before the service at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Phillip Askey will officiate.

Bobby was born November 6th, 1933 to William Alvin  & Mildred Askey in Rhome, Texas. He was united in marriage December 20th, 1953 to Nelda Fay Odom in Decatur, Texas. Bobby was retired from teaching and coaching after many years in the education industry. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. Bobby attended Decatur Baptist College and was a member of First Baptist Decatur. He was a beloved father, uncle, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin & Mildred Askey, and wife Nelda Askey; his brother and sister-in-law, Bill & Joyce Askey; his sister and brother-in-law, Johnnie & Carl Greer; brother-in-laws, Gordon Odom and Richard Odom.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul Askey of Decatur; nephews, Phillip Askey and wife Rebecca of Decatur, Allen Odom and wife Susan of Haslet; nieces, Phyllis Jordan and husband Gary of Glen Rose, Sue Newcomb of Decatur, Cara Willis and husband Ronald of Decatur, and Elizabeth Jones and husband Walter of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Christine Odom of Austin; extended family and a host of friends.
