Bobby Joe Mitchell

Decatur ~ Bobby Mitchell, 90, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, May 24, 2022.

Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kevin Moore will officiate. Pallbearers include Brandon Taylor, Brent Plumlee, Justin Mitchell, Justin Reynolds, Dani Peterson, Chip Eason and Keylan Watts. Honorary pallbearer Eric Watts.

Bobby was born July 14, 1931 to J.C. and Ava (Givens) Mitchell in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was united in marriage December 30, 1954 to Claudine Ethridge in Haltom City, Texas. Bobby was a family man. His wife, Claudine, of 65 years, his kids and grandkids always came first in his life before his own needs.

Bobby proudly served our country in the United States Air Force and was a Mason. He worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company for the best part of his career. As a top salesman, he was awarded many trips for Claudine and himself to places such as London, Greece, Austria, Mexico and numerous others. In retirement he discovered Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada which became his favorite destination.

As for hobbies, Bobby was an excellent carpenter and loved to build. He also enjoyed buying land, making improvements and selling to move on to the next land venture. He even toyed with cattle for a few years. Simply said he was doer. With Bobby’s large family and many friends, you will find anyone you ask will say he was there for them when they needed it. We love and will sorely miss the core of our family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Ava Mitchell; his wife, of over 65 years, Claudine Mitchell; his brother, W.E. and wife Virginia; his sister, Elizabeth Back and husband Jay, and son-in-law, Wes Burchfield.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Terry Mitchell and wife Renee; his daughters, Teresa Thomas and husband Damon, Wendy Bennett, and Gwen Burchfield; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
