Bonnie Sue (Cook) Rawlings

Bonnie Sue Rawlings, 101, passed away Sunday, July 23rd, 2023 in Decatur, Texas.

Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Rev. Brian Bosworth and Rev. Nick McRae will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers include Jeannine Eaton, Virginia Renfro, Ann Williams, Joe McKinney, Gracie Talley, Bea Scoones, and Patti Gage.

Bonnie was born on October 25, 1921 to Thurman and Bernice (McCraken) Cook in Decatur. She grew up on a farm east of Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School in 1940. Bonnie attended Decatur Baptist College, where she met Udell Rawlings. They were married on September 6, 1942 the same day Udell completed flight training and was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army AirCorps. After WWII Udell chose to become a career Air Force pilot and they began an exciting life, traveling and living in many places around the country. They made lifelong friends where ever they went.

In 1969 Udell retired and they chose to make Decatur their home. Bonnie was an accomplished Bridge player and an excellent cook. She had a host of friends and will be sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thurman and Bernice Cook; her husband, Udell Rawlings; her sisters, Martha Hickey and Norma Wiley; a brother, Leonard Cook; brother-in-laws, Scott Hickey, Roy Lynn Kahlich, Jim McNeill and Clint Wiley; sister-in-law, Agnes Cook; a son-in-law, OM Padgett.

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Blagg and husband Gene of Decatur and Suzanne Padgett of Azle; her grandchildren, Dahlem Dodson and wife Amy of Dallas, and Lisa Dodson of Conroe, Beverly Gill and husband Rob of Grapevine; her beloved great grandchildren, Melissa, Meredith and Davis Dodson of Dallas; a sister, Joyce McNeill of Richmond; her much loved nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Besides family were special friends, the ladies of her Bridge Club who are also her Honorary Pallbearers, Patti Gage, Jack Ille and family, Hortensia Pena, her dear care-givers Dorothy Shannon, Pat Cornelison, Darla Cole, Diane Byers, Brenda Miller and Carolyn Martin.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Heritage Place and Solaris Hospice who gave her such loving care.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude, The Decatur Public Library, or The Wise County Historical Society.
