Butch Garrett

January 13, 1948 — September 3, 2018

Bridgeport ~ Larry Wayne “Butch” Garrett, 70, a farmer and rancher, went to be with our Lord Monday, September 3, 2018 in Bridgeport.

Graveside is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018 at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Marc Moore will officiate. Pallbearers include David Carlton, Scotty Ford, John Thatcher, Randy Kleam, Randy Martin, Doug Ward, Raymond Bailey and John Rogers. Honorary pallbearers include Rex Dickenson, Rick Foster, Jackie Phillips and Charles Trail.

Butch was born on January 13, 1948 to Jimmie and Juanita (Beaumont) Garrett in Bridgeport, Texas. He was united in marriage to Janet Force on July 20, 1968 in Bridgeport.

Butch proudly served his county as a sailor and an engine mechanic in the United States Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Colonial out of Vallejo, California. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. Butch earned the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Vietnam Service Medal.

His strong work ethic carried over from military life to civilian life as he pursued a career with Bell Helicopter. Butch also was the owner of Garrett and Garrett Trucking Company and Garrett and Garrett Dairy that he and his father, Jimmie started together.

Butch rode motorcycles all his life. He was very active in the community and was one of the co-founders for the Wise County Toy Run. He was also a board member of several organization including Farm Bureau, Vigortone Minerals, Cargill Molasses Division, ASCS Wise County USDA, City of Lake Bridgeport and various other organizations. Butch also had a heart for charities and a heart for the community. Helping out when disaster struck and donating his time as well as heavy equipment when needed.

Butch loved to prank people merely to see their reactions. He was a kid at heart and wore wild shirts to match his personality. He always had an opinion and lots of good advice and would give it whether you wanted it or not. Butch loved the community but his true passion was is family. His dedication to them through his strong work ethic as well as his strong play ethic showed through with the many activities he attended and did with his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Grayson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Janet Garrett of Bridgeport; his son, Willie Garrett and wife Robin of Bridgeport; his daughter, Betty Garrett Kleam and husband Ronnie of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, J.D., Kenlee and Kareth; and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grayson Garrett Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1105, Bridgeport, Texas.
