BEDFORD ~ Carl Leon Caruthers, 88, a loving son, husband, father grandfather, great grandfather and friend went to be with our Lord Sunday,June 6, 2010 in Bedford, Texas.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Burial: Paradise Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home.

The Reverend Dennis Baw to officiate. Pallbearers: Clay Caruthers, Gary Hunt, Justin Caruthers, Shane Caruthers, Koby Kilpatrick, Jeff Barker and Brent Barker. Sterling Hallmark will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.

Carl L. Caruthers was born June 9, 1921 to Carl Wayne and Annie Ruth (Moody) Caruthers in Paradise, Texas. He graduated as Salutatorian of Paradise High School in 1938 and graduated Denton State Teacher's College with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1942. Carl married Ruth Armstrong on July 5, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona while he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Chemical NCO during World War II.

After returning from the war, Carl began his 41 year career in the edible oil industry working at the same location for three different companies: Armour & Company from 1946-1966; Swift & Company from 1966-1980; and the Bunge Corporation from 1980 until he retired in 1987.

Carl enjoyed life, which contributed to his successful professional career and his precious personal relationships with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his outstanding work ethic, and always putting others ahead of himself.

His hobbies included spending time on the family farm, fishing, coaching and watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their scholastic and athletic endeavors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Ruth; his grandson, Sterling Hallmark and his sister, Lena Mae Watson.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Carla Reneau and husband Max; his sons, Ronnie Caruthers and wife Dana, Terry Caruthers and wife Pam, Jerry Caruthers and wife Lori; grandchildren, Lori Kirkpatrick, Ronna Hunt and husband Gary, Clay Caruthers and wife Cherie, Shane Caruthers and wife April, Justin Caruthers and wife Laura, Hallie and Carlie Caruthers, Tom Reneau and Jon Reneau and wife Heather; great grandchildren, Koby Kirkpatrick, Camryn and Cayton Caruthers, Rylee and Graydon Hunt, Kole Caruthers, Ava Reneau; brother in law, Olin Watson; niece, LouAnn Barker and her family as well as a host of friends.
