Decatur ~ Carl Thomas Greer, 91, of Decatur went to be with our Lord Saturday, February 15, 2020 in Decatur, Texas.
Funeral service is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral.
Gerre Joiner and Phillip Askey will officiate. Pallbearers include Russell Stephens, Paul Askey, Blake Tucker, Danny Harvey, Chris Kovach, Gerry Greer, and Devon Willis.
Military Honors provided by the Wise County Veterans Group.
Carl was born April 22, 1928 to Fred and Mabel (Houston) Greer in Snyder, Texas. He attended school in Decatur and graduated from the University of North Texas. He joined the Army in 1946 and served in Korea for a year. At this time he married Jonnie Mae Askey. The Army pulled him back and he served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma during the Korean War. When he left the service for good, he began working with the Texas State Highway Department as an engineer until his retirement. He and Jonnie raised 2 daughters, Sue Newcomb and Cara Willis, both of Decatur. After Jonnie's death he married Mary Stephens and spent 17 years with her until her death and he was a step-father to Russel Stephens.
Carl will be missed by his daughters, Sue Newcomb and Cara Willis and husband Ronald; his stepson, Russel Stephens; 4 grandchildren, Traci Tucker, Briana Kovach, Whitney Willis, and Devon Willis; 4 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Alfred Greer and wife Elaine; numerous extended family and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Wise County Veterans Group.
