DECATUR -- Carmie N. Newton, a maintenance man and a preacher went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 at his home.
Funeral: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Chapel. Burial: Lone Star Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday. Bro. Bill Hughes will officiate. Pallbearers: Pete Hartsell, Chris Garcia, Brad Newton, Dwayne Garcia, Bobby Joe Taylor, and Bradley Largent.
Carmie was born on May 2, 1926, the son of Alfred and Sally (Dickenson) Newton in Bridgeport. He married Lillie Faye Watson on March 2, 1947 in Bridgeport. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
Left behind to cherish his memory is: his wife of 61 years, Faye Newton of Decatur; 2 sons, Harold Newton and wife Linda of Montague, William Newton of Decatur; 5 daughters, Donna McNally and husband Michael of Weatherford, Margaret Brock of Pilot Point, Linda Largent of Decatur, Dorothy Hartsell and husband Tim of Marshall, and Brenda Lewis and husband Scott of Aledo; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Melton Newton of New Mexico; 5 sisters, Anne Mae Brooks, Neomi Ruth Collins, Lou Ellen Lum, Marietta Harless, and Flora Jean Frazier.
