Rhome ~ Charles William Shaffer, Jr., 76, a retired military serviceman went to be with our Lord Thursday, February 9, 2012 in Decatur.
Memorial service is 2:15 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at D/FW National Cemetery in Dallas.
Chaplain William King will officiate and the Honor Guard service will be performed by the Carswell Joint Service Honor Guard.
Charles was born on December 26, 1935 to Charles William, Sr. and Mary (Fox) Shaffer in Canyon, West Virginia. He married Elfriede Soer on October 1, 1964 in Germany. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ralph Shaffer; his sister, Patty Clark; his brothers, Ralph and Earl Shaffer.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Elfriede Shaffer of Rhome; his son, Armin Shaffer and wife Wanda of Friendship, Tennessee; his daughters, Monika Shaffer of Rhome, Kristina Parker and husband Ernie of Rhome, Sandy Tilley and husband Paul of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Jacob, Renee, and Briana; his sisters, Peggy Kennedy and Sandy Wilburn; his brothers, Jimmy and Frank Shaffer; other relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to D/FW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.

Mrs. Shaffer,
You and the kids are in my prayers during this time. Mr. Shaffer was a wonderful man and an American Hero. I thank you both for your sacrifices as he served our country and I praise God that he has received the ultimate healing and is now resting in the arms of Jesus. May you find comfort and peace through God, our Father.
