Decatur ~ Charles Herman Taylor, 86, a Reverend of 63 years, went to be with our Lord Friday, August 23, 2019 in Decatur.
Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at Community Church with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Rev. Casey Johnson and B.J. Nunley will officiate. Pallbearers include Nathan Ruddick, Clayton Taylor, Jace Tillery, Hayden Scarborough, Seth Jones, and Mickey Scarborough. Honorary Pallbearers include Roland Davie, B.J. Monk, Gabe Spikes, Isaac Teran, Neal Fortenberry, Ross Mueller, Jack Brooks, Charles Pitts, Gerald Lanier, Kenneth McCauley, and Morris Berend.
Charles was born on July 1, 1933 to Herman Petway and Maggie Lois (Conner) Taylor in Monroe, Tennessee. He was united in marriage to Sylvia Ruth Robinson on November 23, 1962 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Decatur, Texas. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Jacksboro and a member and long time President of the North Texas Fox and Wolf Hunters Association. Charles proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean war. His favorite name for himself was “Granddad” he would always answer to that. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Claudine Phillips, Jessie Fay Carson, and Francis Chambers; his brothers, Herburt Taylor, and Jimmy Taylor.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Ruth Taylor of Decatur; his son, Danny Taylor and wife DeAnn of Decatur; his daughter, Nina Tillery and husband Jace of Decatur; his grandchildren, Brittany Jones and husband Seth of Alvord, Courtney Scarborough of Decatur, Jayd Emma Tillery of Decatur, and Clayton Taylor of Decatur; his great-granddaughters, Taylor Scarborough, Tatum Scarborough both of Decatur, and Gracelyn Jones of Alvord; his sisters, Betty Knight, Billie Jean Neal, and Johnnie Ward; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
