Clyde was born on December 24, 1924 to Clyde and Cristine (Rawle) Spain in Decatur, Texas. He was united in marriage to Mavis Hammon on March 11, 1945 in Simsboro, Louisiana. Clyde and Mavis celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary of 75 years on March 11, 2020. Clyde was a minister for over 75 years and was presently a member of Eagle Drive Baptist Church.

During his life, Clyde pastored churches in Jacksboro and Dumas, Texas, then in Roswell, New Mexico, and retired from pastoring in Dallas, Texas. After retiring from church leadership, he and Mavis spent many years traveling the nation ministering to churches. During the summers Clyde and Mavis cherished the opportunity to minister at Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in Sedalia, Colorado. He loved the good work and the souls of those that where ever present at that beautiful place.

He loved to smoke brisket, he loved his sons and their families, and most of all loved the people of this world. Clyde dedicated his life to teaching every person he could the joy of knowing Christ and the ultimate forgiveness of a relationship with Jesus. This is something he knew and lived daily.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Cristine Spain; siblings Leona Burke, Warren Spain, Emodene Atkins, Alma Maxey; and son, Ed Spain.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 75 years, Mavis Spain of Decatur; his son, Glen Spain and wife, Phyllis, of Sachse, and son, Curtis Spain and wife, Sharolyn, of Mesquite; his daughter-in-law, Vicki Spain, of Decatur; his 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his brother Don Spain and wife, Dean, and sister Nel Stone; and many extended family members, and a host of friends and loved ones.
