DECATUR -- Cody M. Caraway, 88, died June 29, 2007 in Decatur. Funeral: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 7, 2007, in the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Decatur. Officating is Dr. Thomas Brumett, First United Methodist Church. BURIAL: Oaklawn Cemetery. Cody was born on August 26, 1918 to Jesse and Mary Jane Caraway in Wise county. Cody grew up in the Allsion Community of Wise County near Decatur, Texas. He served during World War II as a Seabee in the US Navy. He received commendations for his service in constructing air fields and bases in the Pacific Theater. Following the War, he returned to Texas and married Joy Mecaskey on August 29, 1949. Cody was an avid hunter and outdoors man. He was a wheat farmer in South Dakota during the wheat growing season. He worked as a tile setter during his off months from farming. Following retirement, Cody enjoyed collecting and trading quality hunting rifles, including Pre 1964 Winchester rifles. Cody remained an active hunter and outdoorsman until he became ill in early 2006. Cody died on June 29, 2007 in Decatur, Texas. Survivors: He is survived by his wife Joy of Decatur. daughter; Angela Smith and her husband, Brock. grandsons; Cody Mac Smith and Russell Smith. Several nieces, nephews and a host of beloved friends.
