Dean was born May 6, 1963 in East Lansing, Michigan to Dick P. and Dona (Meek) Hoke. He moved from Maryland to Texas in 1992. Dean was a lifelong printer and graphic designer.

Dean loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his son, Matt when he graduated from Texas Tech in May, when Matt married Isamar two years ago and the birth of his granddaughter, Maizy Naecker.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Dona Faulkner and husband Ben of Sadler, Texas; two sons, Matthew P. Hoke and wife Isamar of Lubbock and Jesse Hoke-Naecker of Frederick, Maryland; sister, Diane McCarthy of Azle; granddaughter, Maizy Naecker of Frederick, Maryland; three step-sisters, Helen Davis of Austin, Julie Lenzo of Albuquerque, New Mexico and April Slobogin of Gardnerville, Nevada; two step-brothers, Terry Faulkner of Abilene and Scott Faulkner of Rockwall, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his father and his former wife, Sharon Hoke.
