Dennis Mccreary

February 26, 1955 — September 24, 2019

Decatur ~ Dennis Allen McCreary, age 64, stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 after a battle with ALS.  Dennis passed away at his home in Decatur, Texas surrounded by his loved ones. Dennis was born in Dallas, Texas on February 26, 1955 to Joe and Wanda (Leverette) McCreary.

A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Newark.

Officiating in honor of Dennis will be Prince Chinje, Dan Hunt, and Gary Hibbs.

In his youth, Dennis was a bare-back bronc rider and competed in many rodeo events and learned to enjoy working with his hands from his Pop, Clyde Douglas Leverette.  As an active father, Dennis found his weekends filled with youth sports watching soccer games, attending high school football games, and watching color guard performances.

In 1982, Dennis received a Bachelors of Science from East Texas State University. He went on to receive a Master’s Degree in 1993 from Amber University in Business Administration. Dennis worked in public school business for 30 years, where he was responsible for all facilities and planning and construction at Northwest, Plano and Carrollton-Farmers Branch school districts. The last 16 years of his career he served as the assistant superintendent for facilities and construction at Northwest ISD, and retired in 2016 after suffering a stroke.

In April of 2004, Dennis gave his life to Christ and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Newark. In 2014 he was instrumental in establishing Greater Community Church in Rhome, now known as Embassy Community Church where he attended until his death.

After his stroke in 2015, Dennis organized a monthly stroke support group as a means to offer encouragement, support and resources for stroke over comers and their caregivers.  He also served on the Wise Health Foundation Board from August of 2016 - November of 2018.  During his retirement he established his own company, McCreary Woodworks, where he built and installed cabinets.

Dennis, also known as Pop, enjoyed visits from his grandchildren. He served the Lord by teaching Sunday School, being a member of praise and worship teams and sharing with others how they too could personally know the Lord as their Savior.  He loved to relax on the back porch with his dogs, studying God’s Word and going to the movies. His example of trusting God's plan and finding peace and joy in the midst of life's circumstances was a blessing to many.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lindsey McCreary; his brother- in- law, Mark Rossman; and hid granddaughters, Cassidy and Emerson McCreary.

He is survived by his spouse of 14 years, Tammy McCreary; his children with Robin Robertson Corser; Eden Fogleman and husband Scott of Sugar Land, Ashley Dixon and husband Corey of Missouri City, Cody McCreary and wife Brandi of Little Elm, and stepdaughter Jennifer Suson and husband Joseph of Fort Worth; his grandchildren, Kate and Luke Fogleman, Collin and Dillon Dixon, and Owen McCreary; his parents Joe and Wanda McCreary of McKinney; his sister Pam Rossman of Plano; his nieces Taylor Hagler and Allyson Neill.
