Alvord: Dessie Mae Thompson, 92, a nurse, went to be with our Lord, Friday, October 21, 2011 in Bridgeport, Texas.
Funeral is 10 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ron Bird and Coley Fry officiating. Interment: Jonestown Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Pallbearers include Steven Counts, Jon Tracy, Michael Counts, Jordan Brannon, Tyler Carston, Dillon Thompson, Clint Wright and Josh Thomas.
Dessie was born on December 7, 1918 to James Samuel and Mecia (Johnson) Reagan in Alvord, Texas. She was united in marriage to J. W. Thompson on August 14, 1937 in Alvord, Texas. Dessie retired from nursing at the age of 80 after 30 years. During those 30 years, she had worked for the late Dr. Ben Merritt for 19 years. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church since 1939 where she taught the Ladies Bible Class for 50 years.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her son, Jim Thompson and wife Rosie of Alvord; five grandchildren, Jim Thompson, Jr., Sherri Counts, Bill McDaniel, Tish Wright and Jerri Thompson; 10 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Maxine Reagan; and her niece, Sharon Byran.
Dessie is preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Jeanette Thompson; her son, Wayne Thompson; and her brother, Jay Reagan.
