Chico ~ Doc Eugene Grooms, 87, a retired equipment operator, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 in Crafton after a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial Service is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Chico. Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
The Reverends Ronnie Lawson and Tom Merritt will officiate.
Doc was born on February 29, 1932 to John F. and Raney (Brunson) Grooms in Chattanooga, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Ruth Willine (Pirtle) Grooms on August 25th, 1957 at the First Baptist Church in Chico. Doc was a veteran and proudly served our country in the United States Army National Guard. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1992 after 29 years and 3 months of service. Doc then became a full-time farmer and rancher. He was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star of the Chico and Decatur Chapters and a Mason with the Masonic Lodge Chapter of Chico.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Donnie Grooms; his daughter, Vicki (Grooms) Gordon; his brother, and 3 sisters.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Willine Grooms of Crafton; his grandson, Dace Grooms and wife Jada of Chico; his granddaughter, Calli Gordon of Chico; his son in law, Lynn Gordon of Chico; his sisters, Gussie Groves and husband R.L. of Chico, and Yvonne Burgess and husband Scott of Sanger; numerous nieces, and nephews, and a host of friends.
Military Honors provided by Army National Guard.
In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, The Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Scholarship Funds of Chico, or Solaris Hospice.
