Paradise ~ Dorotha “Dot” Read, 89, went to be with our Lord Friday, July 5, 2024 in Decatur.
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11th, at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial in Paradise Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Brother Jim Taylor will officiate. Pallbearers are Corey Herman, Sam Dolak, Jason Read, Hunter George, Caiden Shetter, David Scott Herrera and Triston Read. Honorary Pallbearers include, Bryce Shetter, Courtnei Herrera, and Gage Banda.
Dorotha was born on October 7, 1934 to Scott and Mattie Evelyn (Maddux) Morehead in Bridgeport. She was united in marriage to Harold Dean Read on March 8, 1952 in Chico, Texas, they were married 65 beautiful years before his passing in 2017. Dot was a homemaker, cafeteria assistant at Paradise ISD for 30 plus years, and a member at the Church of Christ in Paradise. She was a beloved mother, grandmother of 3 generations, sister, aunt and a friend to many that will miss her dearly.
Dot’s greatest loves were God and her family. She loved to cook for her family and enjoyed all aspects of family time and activities. She found joy in sharing the love of Christ with all to whom the Lord placed in her path. She had a servant’s heart and loved to help and serve others, especially those in need. Her greatest joy later in life were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Read; her parents, Scott and Mattie Evelyn Morehead; her 2 grandsons, Dalton George and Braylon Shetter; and her brother, Randall Morehead.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Duane Read and wife Marilyn of Decatur, Mitchell Read and wife Debbie of Paradise, and Lori Dolak and husband George of Bedford; her grandchildren, Jason Read and wife Tiffany, Amanda Shetter and husband David, Melissa Read, Scott Read, David Scott Herrera and Amanda, and Sam Dolak; others dear to her heart, Christy Charters and Amber Herman; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
