Edna "Lulu" L. Fitzgerald

Edna “Lulu” Fitzgerald, age 74, born August 11, 1945 in Decatur, Texas and transitioned into Heaven on July 18, 2020 in Plano, Texas.

Family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm, Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Decatur, Texas 76234. Funeral Service will be held at 2 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Lulu was a life-time resident of Decatur, and was deeply rooted in her community, as well as the people she loved so dearly. In her early years she was involved with 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, Pee Wee football, the Wise Co. Jr. Women’s Club, and was the recipient of the “Woman of the Year” on several occasions.While raising their family, Lulu also assisted her husband, H.S., as a bookkeeper for his business. She eventually retired from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office after 14 years of service, where she considered her co-workers as family.Lulu shared much of herself with her community, co-workers, friends, and family, including her kindness, acceptance and respect for all - regardless of their station or position in life.

She never knew a stranger, and was a welcoming presence to those around her. Most importantly, Lulu treasured her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her love for her family was unconditional, and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought much joy to her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.S. Fitzgerald; mother, Luella Banks Brewer; father, Ed Sherman; aunts, Faye Lewis and Joyce Slate; uncles, Ray Banks and Benny Banks and numerous other family members who she loved so dearly.

Lulu is survived by her children, Monty Fitzgerald and his wife, Melissa of Bridgeport, Marcie Russell and her husband Robin of Keller and Marty Fitzgerald and his wife Jodi of Chico; grandchildren, Makenzie Torres and her husband Anthony of Bridgeport, Jake Fitzgerald of Chico, Jaci Fitzgerald and her partner Derrick Counts of Lubbock, Makayla Fitzgerald and her fiancé Joseph Davis of Bridgeport, Blaine Fitzgerald and her partner Andrew Cecil of Corpus Christi, Christina Russell of Keller, Stephen Russell and his wife Cori of Seattle, WA and Brayden Garrett of Bridgeport; great grandchildren, Reece Cecil, Ezekiel, Abigail and Noah Torres, Logan Garrett and Eli Martinez; brother, Bo Sherman and his wife, Charlene of Utah; sister-in-laws, Lorene Daughtry of Waco and Joyce Boone and her husband Bill of Mineral Wells; niece, Kristy Jaramillo and her husband Brandon of Utah; aunt, Nona Rick of Nevada; uncles, Dean Banks and his wife, Shirley of California and Jerry Banks and his wife Joann of Utah and numerous other family and friends who she considered family.

To honor her memory and her legacy, her family encourages you to be kind, respectful and considerate of one another. In doing so, her sweet spirit will continue to live on in each of us.
