Edward Earl Hollingsworth

June 27, 1930 — November 30, 2021

Edward Earl Hollingsworth, 91, left this life to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

Funeral is 10 AM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at First Methodist Church in Boyd with burial 2 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at, DFW National Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday, December 3, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

Edward “Ed” was born on June 27, 1930, to Kenneth Earl and Hazel O. (Creach) Hollingsworth in Elk City, Oklahoma. Ed met Wyvonne Stephens at a dance in Dallas, Texas.  On May 3, 1952, Ed and Wyvonne were married at Kessler Park Baptist Church in Dallas.

Edward “E.E.” worked with his grandfather as a wheat harvester, cutting north across the Great Plains, starting in Texas and extending as far north as the Canadian border.  He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and then worked as an aircraft mechanic for Braniff Airlines.  He later worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as a Quality Assurance Representative and ultimately retired from that work.  Edward was a member of First United Methodist Church of Boyd for 40 years.  He also served the children of his community as a member of the Boyd ISD Board of Trustees.  Ed had a passion for dirt track auto racing.  He worked as a pit crew member for, and had friendships with, countless drivers and, in his 70s, even spent a year driving car #70+.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Wyvonne Hollingsworth; his brother, Thomas Frederick “Buddy” Hollingsworth; and his sister, Vonda Mitchell.

Those left to cherish his memory, carry on his legacy of faith, and extend his lifelong commitment to family are four sons, Kenneth S. Hollingsworth and wife, Yun Cha, of McKinney, Timothy E. Hollingsworth and wife, LouElla, of Haslet, Kelly D. Hollingsworth of Haslet, and Jerry Don Hollingsworth and wife, Ginger, of Bandera; his daughter, Cathy Cartmill, and husband, Jerry, of Fort Worth; 13 grandchildren, Steve and Patrick Cartmill, Leslie Vander Gheynst, Adam and Leah Hollingsworth, Alicia Beatrice, Emily, Andrew, Jason, Rebekah, Wyatt, Lane, and Clayton Hollingsworth; 4 great-grandchildren; his brother, Larry Hollingsworth and wife, Sue, of Hammon, Oklahoma; his sister, Carolyn Lindsay, of Elk City, Oklahoma; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Kari, Shari, Melanie, and Somer Hightower of Estes Park, Colorado; other relatives, and a host of friends.
