Edwin Haney

Decatur ~ James Edwin Haney went to be with our Lord Thursday, October 20, 2022.

Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2022 at First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Dr. David Lowrie & Dr. Ken May will officiate. Pallbearers will include Jeremy Slimp, Eric Slimp, Blake Haney, Harrison Haney, Kevin Holzbog, and Chad Scoggins. Honorary pallbearers include the First Baptist Church of Decatur Adult 7 Men’s Class.

Edwin was born February 23, 1935 to S.A. Jr. and Lillie Fae (Morgan) Haney in Chico, Texas. He was united in marriage September 29, 1956 to Melba Jeane Rawle in Decatur, Texas. Edwin was a 1953 graduate of Bridgeport High School and served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Edwin proudly served our country in the United States Army, serving from 1954 to 1956. He was a retired Tool & Die maker for North Texas Plastics, having worked for many years in the plastic manufacturing industry. Edwin was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.A. Jr. and Fae Haney.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Melba Haney of Decatur; his son, Kevin Haney and wife Julie of Decatur; his daughter, Karen Slimp and husband Rick of Decatur; his grandchildren, Jeremy Slimp and wife Taylor of Decatur, Eric Slimp and wife Samantha of Ft. Worth, Kayla Scoggins and husband Chad of Hurst, Blake Haney and wife Blakely of Haslet, Morgan Holzbog and husband Kevin of Decatur, and Harrison Haney of Mineral Wells; 6 great-grandchildren, Kaidan Slimp, Marcie Slimp, Parker Holzbog, Madelyn Slimp, Ryan Slimp, and Ellen Holzbog; his sister, Joyce Beard of Bridgeport; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Decatur Basecamp Children’s Building Fund.
