Obituary for Effie Mae Thomas
Bridgeport~ Effie May Hawkins Thomas was born on January 14, 1924 to parents, Earl and Maggie May Hawkins in Bridgeport, Texas.
Effie entered heaven on Sunday, October 10th at the age of 97 years, at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock Texas. Effie’s husband, Fred, preceded her in death on October 13, 1999. Effie is survived by son Freddy, and daughter Jeana Floyd, married to Dr. Ronnie Floyd. Effie has two grandsons, Josh (married to Kate), and great grandsons Peyton, Parker, and Jack, and Nick (married to Meredith) and great grandchildren Reese, Beckham, Norah, and Maya.
Fred and Effie were married on September 25, 1943. Effie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Serving alongside Fred, she was a pastor’s wife for over 50 years. Effie lived thru the depression, and was separated from Fred shortly after they married when he served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Effie was a member of Victory Life Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, previously at Cross Church in Springdale, Arkansas, and before that, First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Texas. Her ancestors were some of the founding fathers of FBC Bridgeport.
Effie loved to cross-stitch and her favorite thing to stitch were Bible verses and Hymns. During her latter years, she began to color and again, her favorite things were Bible verses, flowers, and birds. She lovingly passed them on to others as birthday cards and cards of encouragement. Effie read the Bible through every year and had already completed her annual reading for this year. Her reading repertoire included nothing but books about Jesus, His church, and His Kingdom.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at The First Baptist Church of Bridgeport, Texas. Visitation will be held at Noon at The First Baptist Church. Dr. Ronnie Floyd will officiate. Burial will be immediately following the service at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport. If you are unable to attend the services, it will be live streamed on Facebook Live, First Baptist Church, Bridgeport, Texas.
Memorials can be given to Mission Dignity of the Guidestone Financial Services, a ministry devoted to helping pastor’s widows financially.
