Funeral is 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with Rev. Zach Landis officiating. Interment: Fairview Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Yates McCurdy,Cole McCurdy, Tommy Blessing, Bubba Blessing, Rocky Holland, and Jarrett Blessing.
Elton was born July 7, 1927 in Blewett Community in Wise County to Rufus Cal and Ava Elizabeth (Chambers) McCurdy. He was united in marriage to Wanda Grace Cox on December 31, 1952 in LaGrange, Georgia.
Elton was a charter member of the Wise County Sheriff's Possee; a member of Decatur ISD School Board for 15 years; and served on the Farm Service Agency Committee from 1990-2003. He earned his FFA Lone Star degree and was a past state officer for the Texas State FFA Association. Elton served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Wanda McCurdy of Decatur; two sons, Bill McCurdy and wife Karen of Aurora and Pat McCurdy and wife Beth of Decatur; brother, Floyd McCurdy and wife Peggy of Rhome; four grandchildren, Yates, Lauren, Cole and Andrea McCurdy; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Elton was preceded in death by his brother, Allan McCurdy; sisters, Beatrice Moore, Calva Holland and Dorothy Blessing.
