Graveside service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Oaklawn Cemetery with Reverend Ken May officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Elwyn was born December 16, 1923 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Merritt and Zuma Pearl (Brown) Scott. He married Elizabeth New on May 16, 1948 in Decatur, Texas and was married 54 years at her death in October, 2002. Elwyn retired from the State of Texas Highway Department as a foreman in 1968, worked overseas as a construction supervisor for over 10 years; and retired from Wise County after ten years of service. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sherrie Scott of Wichita Falls, Texas; son, Mike Scott and wife, Susan of Westcliffe, Colorado; four grandchildren, Laura (Schroder) Melnick, Lindsey Schroder, Megan (Scott) Madden, Steven Scott; four great grandchildren, Logan and Kyle Madden, Aiden Schroder, and Caroline Melnick; brother, Delwyn Scott of Fritch, Texas; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Elwyn is preceded in death by his wife, son, Patrick Scott, and two sisters.
