Emory Don Hilton, 99, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 16, 2021 to go live with his Heavenly Father.
Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur. Family will receive friends 1 hour before the service at the funeral home.
Emory was born October 11, 1921 to Joseph “Joe” and Bertha (Stevenson) Hilton in Decatur, Texas. He was united in marriage July 18, 1953 to Guinneth Thompson in Decatur, Texas. Emory was a quiet, humble man who always made sure his family was taken care of. He was a loving husband to his wife Guinneth for over 68 years and a wonderful dad and granddad. He was a true gentleman with a quick wit and helped others whenever he could with his many handyman skills. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.
Emory grew up in Oak Grove Methodist Church in Decatur, Texas and later was a longtime member of Westcliff United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth and more recently a member of Arborlawn United Methodist Church in Ft. Worth. He served his church well his whole life until he was no longer able.
Emory grew up in Decatur working on the family farm and then had a 37- year career with the Soil Conservation Service. Tending the yard and many flowers always brought him great pleasure. Many people were blessed by his nearly 100 years of life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Bertha Hilton; his sister Alta Mae and husband O.L. Cook; his brother, Henry Hilton and wife Gwendolyn.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Guinneth Hilton; his daughters, Judy Grelson and husband Greg, and Nancy Brickey and husband David; his granddaughter, Melanie Grelson Sherry and husband Brian; one niece and three nephews.
