Eugene Torson was born on January 7, 1918 at home on the family farm near West Union, Iowa, the youngest son of Thomas Torson and Evalena Torson (Hoover). He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, his first wife Dolores Seaton and his second wife Eunice Kugel.
Eugene was raised as the youngest of ten children on the family farm three miles north of West Union, Iowa. He completed high school at West Union High School. He had a fulfilling and colorful life raising five daughters, farming, as a salesman for the Watkins Company as well as the McNess Company. At the age of 65 he and his second wife began a career as managers of apartments in Ames, Iowa where he worked until the age of 89.
In October, 2008 he moved to Rhome, Texas to live with his daughter and son-in-law Linda and Scott Ortberg where he passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
Eugene leaves his five daughters, Dianna Torson, Brookings, South Dakota; Frances Allsup, Strawberry Point, Iowa; Marilyn Olson, Lincoln, Nebraska; Linda Ortberg, Rhome, Texas and Kris Stapher, Flandreau, South Dakota and one step-son Randy Kamp, Osage, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
Great Papa Eugene is the Guardian Angel to his Great Granddaughter Lacey Ann Hancock and Great Grandson Levi Travis Hancock.
