Evelyn (Crain) Mitchell

Decatur ~ Evelyn Mitchell, 92 of Decatur, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018 at her home.  She was surrounded and comforted by her sons and family.

Funeral is 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Chaplain Mark Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers include Chris Mitchell, James Mitchell Jr., Lance Mitchell, David Mendes, David Murray, and Roy Wayne Van Huss.

Born on July 19, 1925, to Peter and Katie Crain in Dover, Tennessee.  She graduated from Dover High School in 1945 and then went on to attend Nashville Business College. On January 6, 1946 she met Auther Joe Mitchell at Camp Campbell.  On August 23, 1946, on a 3 day weekend pass, she and Joe married in Greenville, Texas and together they created and shared memories for 38 years. Evelyn was a dedicated and loving mother who loved her 3 rowdy boys unconditionally.  She loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, hunting, fishing, country music, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe; her parents; Peter and Katie; and 5 Brothers and 3 sisters.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her sons, Terry Lee Mitchell and wife Carolyn of Virginia, Darrel Gene Mitchell and wife Sophia of Arlington, James Lynn Mitchell and wife Rachael of Decatur; her grandchildren, Jason, Travis, Misty, Lance, Chris, and James; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
