Franklin Dawson Meador

Franklin Dawson Meador, 88, went to be with our Lord Saturday, September 30, 2023.

Franklin was born December 1, 1934 to Christopher Dawson and Nadine (Franklin) Meador in Saint Jo, Texas. He was united in marriage November 4, 1978 to Charlotte Gettys in Decatur, Texas. Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

Frank attended the University of Texas at Austin as a business major. There he was also a member of Charros, which was a U.T. Rodeo Association.

After college Frank settled in Decatur, Texas where he worked in his family owned Central Telephone Company for many years before the company sold. He then began farming and ranching.

Due to Frank’s interest in antique vehicles he formed and owned Older Used Cars in Decatur where he was often visited by the high school Auto Mechanics Club. Actually, he was often sought out by people from all over the United States wanting information on antique vehicles.

Franklin was a member of The Rotary Club, a charter member of the Wise County Auto Club, a member of the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur for the vast part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Nadine Meador; his daughter, LeaAnn Meador; and granddaughter, Chimene Meador.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Charlotte Meador of Decatur; his son, Jon Meador and wife Lisa of Woodson; daughter, Sterling Cole and husband Gavin of Flower Mound; his grandchildren, Raymon Meier, Triston Minihan and husband Thomas, Jess Meador, and Owen, Nathan, Gracen & Weston Cole; 3 great-grandchildren, Camden, Dayton, and Bayleigh Minihan; extended family members and a host of friends.

Memorial Service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m., December 16, 2023 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur.

Memorials may be made to the Wise County Historical Society.
