Newark ~ Freddie Jack Shannon, 81, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, went to be with our Lord Friday, June 6, 2014 in Decatur.
Memorial service is 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd.
Freddie was born on February 25, 1933 to Fred and Lucille (Kyle) Shannon in Cisco, Texas . He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of dedicated service and fought in the Vietnam War. After his retirement, he received his pilot’s license and flew small engine aircrafts. Freddie played the steel guitar in several bands, although he could not read sheet music he taught several people how to play music by using numbers. He made several steel and electric guitars and liked to work with leather.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Byron Keene Shannon; and 2 great granddaughters.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Ike Shannon and wife Kim of Lake Worth, Chad Shannon and wife Wanda of Newark; his grandchildren, William, Gary, Raychel and husband Adam, Sunnie and husband D.J., Kimberlee and husband Andrew, and Anthony; 7 great grandchildren; his brother, Terry Brown and wife Ann of Florida; 1 niece; 1 nephew; other family members and a host of friends.
