Chico: Garland Bruce Wester, 96, beloved Daddy and "Big Daddy", went to be with our Lord, Sunday, October 17, 2010 in Azle.

Funeral: 2 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Chico with burial in Chico Cemetery. Family to receive friends 6-8 PM Wednesday at Hawkins Funeral Home.

The Reverend Larry Potts to officiate. Pallbearers: Jim Smith, Landry Smith, Butch Coble, Byron Wester, Tim Samsill and Harold Denney.

Bruce was born December 14, 1913 to J.H. and Lily (Owen) Wester in Argo, Texas. He married Clara Redwine on March 20, 1937 in Chico. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Bruce was retired from South West Stone and Wester's Exxon Station in Chico. He loved to fish and hunt and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chico for 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Clara Wester; his son, Roland Wester; his brother, Arlin Wester; and his sister, Ema Coble.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Peggy Smith and husband Jimmie of Azle; his daughter in law, Bobbie Wester of Hobbs, New Mexico; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the First Baptist Church of Chico.
