Bridgeport: George Edwin Powers, Jr., 71, a retired oil and gas field representative, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Bridgeport.
Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport with burial in Thomas Cemetery.
Reverend Craig Erb to officiate. Pallbearers: J.S. Powers, Wayne Powers, Neulan Powers, Kenny Daffern, Bobby Duck, and Jerry Rhett McKay. Honorary Pallbearers: Billy Admire and Benny Duck.
George was born November 26, 1939 to George and Leona (Duck) Powers in Decatur, Texas. He married Jan Glynn Nixon on June 25, 1966 in Andrews, Texas. George was a veteran of the Army and served on the Bridgeport School Board from 1982 to 1986. He was a graduate from North Texas State University with a BBA degree and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Jan Powers of Bridgeport; his son, Alan Powers and wife Jeannine of Bridgeport; his daughter, Jana Johanson and husband Mike of Bridgeport; 7 grandchildren, Madison, Bryce, Mary Claire, Beka, Aubrey, Bethany, and Molly; his brother, Donnie Powers and wife Ricca of Bowie; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

Sad to hear the news, and wish I could make the funeral. Edwin was such a nice person with a great sense of humor. I have fond memories of going to family reunions and seeing him. He was a favorite to see and always kept us kids laughing and on our toes.

Jan and family:
We were so saddened to learn of Edwin's death. We would have loved to come to his memorial service, but were unable to. Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
