George Washington Roberts Jr.

Justin ~ George Washington Roberts Jr., 91, a retired minister, went to be with our Lord Monday, October 14, 2019 in Grapevine.

Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial in West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rev. Shane LeJeune will officiate. Pallbearers include Cecil Houston, Chad Roberts, Keith Houston, Trey Pittman, Stephen Roberts, and Trey Houston. Honorary pallbearers include Bryant Waller, Austin Roberts, Dustin Roberts, Abishai Waller, Cordell Swindle, and Mark Coupland.

George was born September 28, 1928 to George Washington and Bettie Ola (Sims) Roberts Sr. in Dallas. He was united in marriage to Alice Modene Bailey on December 23, 1949 in Dallas. George was the minister at Lake Bridgeport Community Church for 13 years, he also was a machinist for Poco Graphite.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Modene Roberts; his sisters, Ola Mae Cooper, Emma Lee Curtis, and Betty Jean Rackley.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Steve Roberts and wife Pamela of Justin; his daughters, Alice Houston and husband Cecil of Euless, and Judy Pittman and husband Troy of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Stephen Roberts, Chad Roberts, Cecil Houston II, Keith Houston, Karen Waller, Aimee Houston, Mark Coupland, and Trey Pittman; 17 great-grandchildren; his brothers, David Paul Roberts and wife Dee of Grand Prairie, Ted Roberts and wife Linda of Pearland, and Jerry L. Roberts and wife Katherine of Wills Point; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
