Aurora: George Dennis Walker, 68, an ordained preacher, went to be with our Lord, Monday, November 28, 2011 in Decatur.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1st at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with Elders, Clifford Gowens, Mike Montgomery, and Eddie Hicks officiating. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers included Michael Nickens, Russell Nickens, Matthew Nickens, Ronnie Mallow, Dale Walker, Joe Walker, Derek Boen and Keith Nickens.

George was born November 17, 1943 in Shelby County, Tennessee to Clarence Ivan and Edna Mae (Moak) Walker. George moved to Texas in 1965 at the age of 21 years to pursue his call to preach. He was united in marriage to Eleanor Lee Norwood on July 2, 1966. On November 28, 1976, George was ordained at Mt. Zion Church in Fort Worth. He pastored the church at the New Hope Church in Fort Worth for 21 years.

When George was not preaching and working his ministry, he was an Inspector for the former Southwestern Lab in Fort Worth. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Ft. Worth and he served in the U.S. Army.

Left behind to cherish his memory are wife of 45 years, Eleanor Walker of Aurora; son, Tony Walker of Aurora; daughter, Stephanie Nickens and husband Michael of Newark; three brothers, Robert Walker of Clinton, Kentucky, Carley Walker of Dresden, Tennessee and Clyde Walker of South Fulton, Tennessee; sister, Miriam Hicks of Fulton, Kentucky; and three grandsons, Keith, Walker, Riley Nickens.

On behalf of Elder George Walker, our love and condolences are extended to his wife, Eleanor, and his son and daughter, and the remaining members of his family. Brother George was a most wonderful friend of mine, and he shall be missed by us who are left here. But his eternal home is in heaven and he is now with his Lord and Savior in Heaven in soul and spirit. May God bless his family with reconciling grace.
