George William Washburn
Date Died: February 07, 2009

Born on August 12, 1935 in Decatur, Texas to Audie and Stella Washburn. He married his childhood sweetheart, LaRue Rose, on February 24, 1955. He contributed to his country through service in the Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He held many different management jobs throughout his career including the Texas Highway Department, Elcor, Reynolds Metals, and oil and gas plant management at Sid Richardson. His career led him to many cities throughout Texas and surrounding states including Enid, Van Horn, Portland, Abiliene, Jal, and Kermit. He retired in 2000 to his hometown area of Runaway Bay, Texas.

He was a perfectionist in everything he did. He loved music, building and repairing things, sports, fishing, and playing cards (okay, the card plaing was at the constant urging of his soulmate and wife). He was a loving husband, unmatched father role model, and a very special Poppy! He enjoyed worshiping God through leading music at many churches throughout his life. He was truly one of a kind. He was the most trustworthy, ethical honest man you will ever know.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, three daughters, Pennye of Minden, Louisiana, Lisa and husband Tim of Enid, Oklahoma, and Candi and husband Buddy of Colleyville, Texas. His grandchildren included Amber and husband Daniel, Brandon, Heather, Gabe, Courtney, Heather, Dan, and Chrissy. He had four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many, many true friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation from 6 - 7:30pm Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers include James Wood, Edwin Haney, Sam Park, Brandon Moore, Charles Todd, Loyd Jackson, Bill White, and Jerry Rawle.

Honorary pallbearers include Robert Moody, Don Erwin, Billy Joe Snyder, Wayne Rogers, and Clay Dent.
