Funeral is 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 14th at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with Reverends Tracy Epting and Ken May officiating. Interment: Sycamore Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Frank Maxwell, Neal Fortenberry, Kenny Shaw, John Gibbon, Tom Goode, Brent Williams, Rex Maxwell, and Ralph Amyx. Honorary pallbearers include Rodney Mote, Allen Ray Young, Bud Enis, J. E. Carson, Bob Mote, and Dr. William Lewis.
Roland was born October 25, 1936 in Greenwood, Texas to George Edward and Mary Sofia (Malcolm) Wilson. He was a graduate of Slidell High School and received his Master's at North Texas University in Denton. Roland was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Gordon on May 14, 1965 and was married 32 years at her death on February 27, 1997.
Roland retired from Decatur ISD in 1987 after 25 years of service as a teacher and school administrator. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Roland was a long time farmer and rancher in Greenwood and was an avid supporter of the Slidell Lady Hounds Basketball team. He was very supportive of the Greenwood and Slidell area.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Charland Stephens of Greenwood; two grand-daughters, Kendal Stephens of College Station and Katy Stephens of Greenwood; his brother, Bobby Wilson of Decatur; three sisters, Bernice Ashley of Corinth, Jeanette Pair of Tyler and Margaret Jones of Ft. Worth.
