Alvord ~ Gladys Joy Smith, 91, a homemaker, went to be with our Lord Friday, January 6, 2017 in Bowie.
Funeral is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Alvord with burial in Briar Branch Cemetery in Alvord. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.
Rev. Bill Cleveland will officiate.
Gladys was born on March 4, 1925 to Cecil and Clara (Cunningham) Horner in Decatur. She was united in marriage to Clyde Smith on July 17, 1945 in Decatur. Gladys was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alvord since 1950.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Guy Horner Jr.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anna L. Heller and husband Lynn of Alvord; her sons, Phillip W. Smith of Alvord and Clyde McDonald “Mack” Smith II of Alvord; her grandchildren, Lora Hawley and Brian Whaley; her great grandchild, Brennen Smith Whaley; her brother, Travis Horner; her sisters-in-law, Oleta Horner and Mary Rutherford; her brother-in-law, C.P. Smith Jr.; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
