Chico ~ Harlan L Buckner, 90, a rancher and farmer, went to be with our Lord Wednesday, October 3, 2018 in Decatur.
Funeral is 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018 at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cumby Cemetery. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Bro. Gary Demmitt will officiate. Pallbearers include Curtis Buckner, Jarrett Wilson, Wilford Buckner, Jeff Buckner, Mark Buckner and Todd Buckner. Honorary pallbearers include Wes Fletcher and Chaz Stewart.
Harlan was born on December 1, 1927 to Luther lee and Beulah (Harriott) Buckner in Park Springs, Texas. He was united in marriage to Helen Sheppard on March 21, 1953 in Denton, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army. Harlan raised cattle and horses and loved to attend rodeos. He loved spending time on his tractor and being outdoors. Harlan played the guitar and was a member of the Buckner Band. Even though he was a guitar man, he loved fiddle music and would often travel to watch fiddler contests. Harlan had an incredible work ethic but he took time to make memories with his family. He was an amazing man, a good dad and a very good Papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Helen Buckner; his sisters, Reba Jo Buckner and Margie Buckner-Brown; his brother, Marshall Buckner.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jan Fletcher and husband Craig of Lebanon, Tennessee; his son, Randel Buckner and wife Delinda of Chico; his grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson and husband Jarrett, Whitlee Stewart and husband Chaz, Curtis Buckner and wife Whitney, Wes Fletcher and Britlee Fletcher; great grandchildren, Mady, Creese, Cullen, Juliet, Whellen and Layken; his brothers, Calvin Buckner, Kenneth Buckner and G.A. Buckner all of Chico; his sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Vanarsdale of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
