Herald D. Gillespie

Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31st at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Boyd Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Rev. F.C. Lasater will officiate. Pallbearers include Forest Cartwright, Trevor Gillespie, Bryan Gillespie, William Shelby, Tim Gaither, Jason Rogers, Gary Powell, Neil Powell, George Hatfield and Ray Gilbert.

Herald was born on June 10, 1926 to William and Lydia (Ewing) Gillespie in Peacock, Texas. He was united in marriage to Tommie Swinney on January 27, 1948 in Decatur. Herald was a farmer, owner of Gillespie Real Estate, and a member of the Texas Board of Realtors. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. Harold was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Boyd.

Herald is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Soretha Kay Gillespie; his brother, William Joseph Gillespie, II; his sisters, Eveleen Brown, Estlene Gaither, Clarice Bimbo and Edna Prescott.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Tommie Gillespie of Boyd; his sons, Herald Wayne Gillespie and wife Linda of Boyd, Marshall David Gillespie and wife Marietta of Lehi, Utah; his grandchildren, William, Bryan, Forest, Trevor, Tori, Gary, Neil and Andy; 16 great grandchildren; his brother, Joe Wayne Gillespie and wife Sharon of Springtown; other family members and a host of friends.
