Honora Brown passed into the arms of Jesus at 8:00 PM on July 1, 2016. Honora Horn Stromberg Brown was born November 1, 1915, in Ardmore, OK. Her parents were Fred and Laura Horn. She grew up in Ardmore and graduated from AHS, as did her brother Webster and sister Virginia. In 1936 she married Stanley Stromberg. They lived in Odessa, TX, and Hobbs, NM, in addition to Ardmore. He died in 1960. She married Harley Brown in 1979. He passed in 1994.
Honora was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, elder, and president of the women’s association for several years. She volunteered at the soup kitchen regularly. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary since 1971 and served as president two terms. She accumulated 7,500 volunteer hours. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League where she achieved the distinction of Silver Life Master. She taught bridge lessons at the YWCA for several years. She was a member of the YMCA where she socialized with a wonderful group of swimmers.
She liked to play bridge, mah jong, knit, swim, watch soaps, and spend time with family. She helped many people by sponsoring scholarships, giving financial assistance, providing coats for elementary students, and cooking, cooking, cooking.
She is survived by son Jon Stromberg and wife Jimmie; daughter Bunny Perry and husband Richard; step-daughter-in-law Patty Brown; 5 granddaughters; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 7, at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Chapel. Memorials may be made to Loaves and Fishes at First Presbyterian Church in Ardmore, OK.
